The hosts, South Africa will open their campaign at the majestic Soccer City Stadium against Mexico. From there, they travel to Tshwane/ Pretoria to play Uruguay. Tshwane/ Pretoria is about 60km from Johannesburg.

Travel from Johannesburg to Tshwane

By minibus taxi: Minibuses, or taxis as they are known in South Africa, are the most popular mode of transport between these two cities. Make your way to Johannesburg's Central Business District (CBD) and catch a taxi to Tshwane/ Pretoria. Johannesburg and Pretoria have designated taxi ranks that transport passengers in between the two host cities. Minibus taxis operate on a strictly cash-only basis.

By train: A regular train service is available between these two cities. You can catch a train at Johannesburg’s Park Station (in the CBD) at Rissik Street that will take you to the city of Tshwane/ Pretoria. http://www.shosholozameyl.co.za/

By cab/meter taxi: The short distance between these two cities makes this a genuine travel option. This kind of taxi is available in main transport hubs in Johannesburg.

The hosts will then make the long journey from Tshwane/ Pretoria to Mangaung/ Bloemfontein to play their big game against France in their final group match This route will give you the opportunity to explore the country further, meandering through this flat landscape covered with lush green vegetation.

Travel options from Tshwane/ Pretoria to Bloemfontein

By air: You will have to take a cab (meter taxi) to the nearby OR Tambo International airport in Johannesburg (about 30km from Tshwane) where you will catch a flight to Bloemfontein Airport.

By car: The road between Tshwane/ Pretoria and Bloemfontein has nice scenery in abundance and this option is highly recommended. Find the nearest car rental place and enjoy the 470km drive. You will take the N1 road to Mangaung/ Bloemfontein. As you leave Johannesburg you will pass the Soweto township which is very much worth exploring, given that it helped shape the history of South Africa during the fight against Apartheid. Here you can visit the famous Vilakazi street, where Nelson Mandela stayed before he was jailed for 27 years. You can also visit the Hector Peterson Museum there. After your stop in Soweto, head back to the N1 and this road will lead you straight to the city of Mangaung/ Bloemfontein. Around the halfway point of your journey, you may fancy stopping in Kroonstad to savour the beauty and tranquility of this small town.

By bus: The third option will be to take an overnight bus trip, which takes between five and six hours to reach Mangaung/ Bloemfontein. Make your way to Johannesburg Park Station (in the CBD) and catch one of the luxury buses to Mangaung/ Bloemfontein.
