Coach: Lars Lagerback
Legendary Swedish Coach Lars Lagerback will lead Nigeria at World Cup 2010. In February 2010 he replaced coach Amodu Shaibu who led the team through qualification to South Africa.
World Cup 2010 Qualifying:
Nigeria qualified in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win against Kenya in Nairobi. The Super Eagles had to win to have any chance of denying Tunisia. They fought back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1, but conceded a 79th-minute equaliser, only for Obafemi Martins to seal an emotional win. On qualifying then Nigeria coach Amodu Shaibu said "This is a typical Nigerian side which you can never rule out when it is faced with adversity. It's fantastic. Now we have to go back home and map out the preparations."Past World Cup Performance:
Nigeria are known as the Super Eagles and have qualified for 4 World Cup Tournaments in the history with their first appearance coming at the 1994 World Cup in the USA. After fine wins against Bulgaria and Greece they qualified for the next stage and came within one minute of moving into the Quarter Finals before Roberto Baggio scored for Italy in extra time. Nigeria's next World Cup appearance came in 1998 where they again cleared the Group Stages before falling to a 4-1 defeat to Denmark. In 2002 Nigeria again qualified and entered the tournament with high hopes but on this occasion 2 defeats to Argentina and Sweden followed by a 0-0 draw against England meant they went out at the first hurdle. At World Cup 2010 Nigeria have been drawn against Argentina, Greece and South Korea in World Cup Group B.Nigeria - Key Players
