Coach: Javier Aguirre
Javier Aguirre was appointed Head Coach of Mexico in December 2009 and has led the team through qualification to South Africa after the dreadful start Mexico made under previous coach Sven Goran Eriksson.World Cup 2010 Qualifying:
Mexico made sure of their 14th appearance at the finals with a game to spare after a comprehensive 4-1 victory over El Salvador - despite a swarm of bees in the goalmouth halting play for 10 minutes! Javier Aguirre's side won six of their nine games to seize the initiative in the group after the job had been started under previous coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. Mexico captain Rafa Marquez said "This is a great team and Javier Aguirre is a great coach. We worked hard and got the job done, the credit goes to all to my teammates and to the coach. They are all amazing."Past World Cup Performance:
Mexico have qualified for 14 World Cups and have qualified consecutively since 1994. Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and again in 1986 and it was here that Mexico inspired by striker Hugo Sanchez equalled their best World Cup performance by making the Quarter Finals. They went out after a 1-4 penalty shootout defeat against West Germany. Mexico have regularly cleared the Group Stages at the World Cup and will hope for the same in Group A where they face the hosts South Africa, France and Uruguay. Mexico will actually kick-off the 2010 World Cup when they play South Africa at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on June 11th 2010.Mexico - Key Players
