Goal in the first minute of referee time for a U.S. 1-0 victory over the Algeria in the 3rd round in Group C of the World Cup, made Landon Donovan to become an American hero.
Before this goal the Americans were on the exit door of World Cup 2010, but they finally took first place in the group ahead of England, and will play against second-placed team from group D.
"I was on a long journey the last four years, and today I am so proud", said Donovan, who started to cry while giving a statement after the game.
"Once I scored, it looked form me like time has stopped. But I could not miss from that position", commented Donovan his goal.
"It's nice to be rewarded when you do things the right way. Our aim now is to recover both physically and emotionally for anyone who comes to us", concluded the emotional striker, who has achieved his 44th goal in the 126th match for U.S. team.
