Worldcup 2010 Group B : South Korea

South Korea

Coach: Huh Jung-Moo

Huh Jung-Moo is a Korean former football player and the current Head Coach of the South Korean national team. Huh was re-appointed coach of the Korea Republic in December 2007, after the leading candidates Mick McCarthy and Gerard Houllier both rejected the job.

World Cup 2010 Qualifying:

The South Koreans secured a seventh successive World Cup finals place thanks to a 2-0 victory over United Arab Emirates in Dubai. Park Chu-young and Ki Sung-yueng grabbed the goals as Huh Jung-Moo's outfit strolled to a place in Africa's first World Cup. On qualifying Huh Jung-Moo said "I'm really happy that we made it. We are all satisfied with a performance that saw us ensure a place in South Africa. The players were excellent throughout the qualifiers, they did a great job."

Past World Cup Performance:

The South Korean national team has played in 6 consecutive World Cup finals from 1986, with their appearance in South Africa being their 7th which makes a total of 8 World Cup final appearances in all. In their first World Cup finals tournament, the 1954 World Cup, South Korea played games against Hungary and Turkey losing 0-9 and 0-7, respectively. It took 32 years before South Korea was again able to participate in the World Cup finals when they qualified for the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico City. They lost 3-1 to Argentina, held Bulgaria 1-1, and narrowly lost to Italy 3-2. At the 2002 World Cup, which they co-hosted with Japan, the South Korean team made the semi-finals under the guidance of Guus Hiddink and they will dream of a repeat performance at World Cup 2010! South Korea are currently ranked 52nd in the World Standings and will face Argentina, Greece and Nigeria in Group B.
